Alaska
A business meeting in Chicago in August 2009 offered me an opportunity to feed my adventurous side. Shortly after finishing my final business meeting, I rushed to the airport and jumped a direct flight to Anchorage, Alaska, with a few clothes and a folding kayak in a backpack. From there I caught a train across the Alaskan country-side, then a water-taxi into the Kenai Fjords National Park, and then a motorised raft into the glacial lakes. My adventure was underway!
Here are the collected stories from that adventure – enjoy! FP

I teach for NOLS in Alaska, so I am fortunate enough to get there most summers. Without a doubt my favorite paddling destination. A friend of mine always asks ‘don’t you want to go someplace new?’ to which I reply, you just don’t get it. If you haven’t been there, you have no frame of reference. Paddling Alaska is my drug of choice.

Gday Brett. I completely understand, Alaska is a truly magical part of the world. That being said though, I feel the same way about Sydney. Completely different climate of course, but its beautiful meandering Harbour, giant ocean-facing cliffs and abundance of places to explore make it magical, and whenever I go away I can’t wait to return to her. I guess this is the beauty of paddling, we can enjoy it where-ever we go, but if we only stay at home we’re happy doing that too!
Thanks for sharing mate. Cheers – FP
