Apart from kayaking, my other passion is rugby union, and in particular supporting my local team (Waratahs) and my national team, the Wallabies.ย For our national side, our biggest rivalry is with our little cousins over the ditch, New Zealand, and their famous All Blacks. And every year we play a series of games for a huge trophy, known as the Bledisloe Cup.
Now it is true that New Zealand has held it recently for around 5 years. But this year I was sure the Aussies finally had a team to take it back. I was so confident in fact, that I placed a bet with some Kiwi mates, including Twitter’s @ireckon. The wager meant the loser would have to spend some time in the oppositions jersey. And unfortunately, that loser was me.
So on this #twitterbetloserfriday the Fat Paddler struck out from home wearing an All Blacks jersey. He then suffered ridicule all day long by colleagues and even strangers on the train. And then to rub salt in the wound, @ireckon “haka-rolled” me, forcing me to hear a recording of the All Blacks haka when trying to ring him.
Not much more to say other than that this day was absolutely horrible. And Wallabies? Don’t let me down next time!!
Although I hate to see the Wallabies lose to the All Blacks (in fact lose to any side) – that get up just too bloody funny… Maybe get @ireckon to sponsor you to wear the fro in the HCC.
Any ever tell you that black is slimming? You don’t look like a fatpaddler to me!

Mate ! you’re a great sport ! well done ๐ nice shades btw.
It was the worst day of my life. The shades might get a re-run in the Hawkesbury Classic though… ๐
The shirt of hurt!
Great photos!!! Good times, Sean!! Better luck next time! ๐
Can’t believe you took such a stupid bet
Bob, when you pray at the alter of Green & Gold, anything is possible. Just not in the last decade apparently….
