I took delivery of the first We-no-nah Encounter to ever land on Australia’s shores last weekend, care of new Aussie canoe business Paddle & Portage Canoes. I’ll write up the full story soon but here’s a little taste of the fun we had on her maiden voyage. Cheers – FP
Makes me want a canoe. Jane’s Addiction – yeah!
Looking good!
Would that be some sort of “Sausage Creature” affixed to the front end of your mighty aquatic steed FP? I thought I was the only one who stuck weird stuff on the front of canoes and kayaks. Ran into a canoeing student I taught 20 years ago, and she reminded me that at one point, I had a stuffed shark named “Jawsie” duct taped to the front of my whitewater canoe. I’d forgotten. Thought it was a new thing, this “fixation need”. Hmmmmm.
Ha! No, it’s actually a Contour HD video camera belonging to Nat, which we were testing on a Kayalu mount (in the video, all shots facing me were taken with it). But it’s funny you should discuss this, because at the end of last year whilst overseas I did in fact purchase some items to attach to my canoe prow for this year’s Hawkesbury Canoe Classic. Something tribal. You’ll just have to wait and see. đŸ™‚
Well, so much for my vision. I would have lost a bet on that, so it’s a good thing I’m not a gamblin’ man, but rather a gambolin’ one. It sure does look like a concave sausage with something sticking out of it, topped by an orange “bobble-head”, which I took to be the “cranium of the creature”! Dang! Now that I’m one of your admiring followers, FP, I just see our beloved sausages everywhere…
BTW, the picture of the two little whippersnappers in the canoe is just adorable.
Really pretty canoe, FP! Has as much tumblehome as an 1890s French battleship (I always was fond of those.).
BTW: Wasn’t that an Epic V8 in the background, with the pilot using a canoe paddle? Does someone need to be reported to the surfski style police?
