As the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic approaches, a small niggling problem has started to bug me. That is the fact that my kayak doesn’t have a name. My other kayak, my Folbot Cooper, was given the name “Tabasco” before I had even laid hands on her. It seemed to fit. But for my main boat, my yellow Boréal Design Nanook sea kayak, nothing has lept to mind.
So, after the fantastic success of my tshirt slogan competition, I decided it was time to put it out to the people with much more brains than I – my readership. So here goes….
Name Fat Paddler’s Kayak
Come up with the winning name for Fat Paddler’s kayak and win a Fat Paddler tshirt with slogan of your choice. Here’s how to win.
On twitter, post the following with your choice of name:
Name my kayak to win a @FatPaddler tshirt (Please retweet) #NameFatPaddlersYak Name: “<put name here>”
Retweet it as many times as you like with different name entries. For non-tweeters, post a comment here as your entry.
Will take final entries on thursday 15 October. Go forth and get creative! 🙂
Dude, it has to be Banana Boat!
Like the site, like what you do.
Regards
Derek
Forget to mention, I’m a size XXL for the t-shirt
😉
Cheers
Derek
G’day Derek! I appreciate the fact you take a REAL man’s size tshirt. But I hate any references to bananas. 😉
“Triple XL” or “XXXL”
Neal
You should see if you can get sponsored and name it fat yak like the beer??
How about “NUNATAK” Just a thought.
Nunatak – (from Inuit nunataq) is an exposed, often rocky element of a ridge, mountain, or peak not covered with ice or snow within (or at the edge of) an ice field or glacier.
Esoteric, but cool!

I say Titanic. It’s been long enough that others won’t remember it sinking.
We talked about boat names on the paddling forum, look there for some good names.
How bout “snot rocket” that is a little uncouth, my wife thinks “yellow ant” because an ant is small but can carry hefty loads!
It should be Habanero!
Because:
1.You love chillis;
2.Your other yak is Tabasco; and
3.The best Habaneros are a yellow/orange colour.
I’m still to name mine as well…

WINNING TWEET STREAM
#namefatpaddlersyak In the end, I chose a name no-one entered, but it DID come from the inspiration of others. New Name: “Cayenne”
#namefatpaddlersyak Inspiration came from @missboobiething and Ned (via fatpaddler.com) who both came up with Habanero….. (tbc)
#namefatpaddlersyak However my yak didnt feel orange enough for “Habanero”. Cayenne peppers however do come in yellow.
#namefatpaddlersyak @missboobiething and Ned (via site) – you EACH win a Fat Paddler tshirt. DM me for details! :))
#namefatpaddlersyak And a huge thanks to everyone that took part, I got another dozen or so great ideas for future Fat Paddler tshirts! 😉
Hi Sean i have moved up to Port and some things have got in the way so will not be in it.. have been kayaking the rivers up here camping every night what a life. want to do the Clarence river next. what Gps did you get i noticed it on the front does it have maps?
Ahh, yeah I’ve been searching the HCC website for you, but now I understand.
A friend lent me a Garmin eTrex Vista with full colour maps, which is brilliant for convoluted waterways! I just need to work out the best way to secure it to the yak, haven’t quite got there yet!
Take care mate, enjoy that kayak/camping lifestyle (insert extreme jeolousy here!). 🙂
