Before cars took it upon themselves to smash my body up a few times, my preferred water activity was surfing. I grew up in South Australia where the frigid waters of the Southern Ocean lash the shore, burning your feet and face as you launch through the waves for an early morning wave. I’m now slowly learning to surf my kayak instead, but I still love watching cool surfing footage, and this video is definitely cool. Filmed down at Sydney’s Bondi Beach last wednesday night as a “First Day of Summer” promo for Strongbow Cider, the production was a team effort by famous surf movie maker Jack McCoy, Sydney surf photographer Eugene Tan and Bali Strickland. Whilst watching it, I thought of those crazed Canadian white water junkies, The Hurricane Riders, and their “night squad” videos. Could Tron-like glow in the dark suits add a new dimension to their night paddling?? Who knows! Cheers, FP
